WireGuard is a free and open source VPN solution app and anonymizer developed by Jason A. Donenfeld for Windows, it's efficient, easy-to-use and user friendly.

The download has been tested by an editor here on a PC and a list of features has been compiled; see below. We've also created some screenshots of WireGuard to illustrate the user interface and show the overall usage and features of this VPN solution program.

Free and open VPN client and server software

WireGuard is a free and open-source virtual private network (VPN) software that aims to be faster, simpler, and more secure than existing VPN protocols.

WireGuard uses a novel approach to VPN design that makes it faster and easier to use than other VPN protocols, while still providing strong security and privacy protections. It uses a simple and lightweight tunneling protocol that uses state-of-the-art cryptography to secure data traffic over the Internet.

It is currently under heavy development, but already it might be regarded as the most secure, easiest to use, and simplest VPN solution in the industry.

Because all packets sent on the WireGuard interface are encrypted and authenticated, and because there is such a tight coupling between the identity of a peer and the allowed IP address of a peer, system administrators do not need complicated firewall extensions.

What version of Windows can WireGuard run on?

WireGuard can be used on a computer running Windows 11 or Windows 10. Previous versions of the OS shouldn't be a problem with Windows 8 and Windows 7 having been tested. It comes in both 32-bit and 64-bit downloads.

Other operating systems: The latest WireGuard version from 2024 is also available for Android, Mac and iPhone. These are often available from the app store.
